Safety, Liability & Camper Expectations

Safety Is Our Priority

At Triple Crown Horsemanship Camp, many campers arrive nervous and leave confident.
Our small groups, experienced staff, and structured horse interaction help children feel comfortable quickly — even if they have never worked with horses before.
Parents consistently tell us their child comes home more independent, responsible, and proud of themselves.

New York State Equine Activity Liability Notice

Horseback riding and equine activities involve inherent risks. Horses are large animals with natural instincts and behaviors that may result in injury even when reasonable care is taken.

New York State law recognizes these inherent risks through the Equine Activity Liability Law. By registering a camper and signing the required electronic waivers, parents/guardians acknowledge:

  • Equine activities carry unavoidable risks
  • Horses may react unpredictably to sounds, movement, or surroundings
  • Campers may fall or be injured despite proper instruction and supervision
  • Triple Crown Horsemanship Camp and its staff are released from liability except in cases of gross negligence as defined by New York State law

Participation indicates understanding and acceptance of these risks

Camper Rules & Expectations

To ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone, campers are expected to follow these guidelines:

Around Horses

  • Listen to staff instructions the first time they are given
  • Never enter a stall, paddock, or approach a horse without permission
  • Wear helmets whenever mounted or around horses
  • Wear closed-toe shoes or boots in the barn area
  • No running, yelling, or sudden movements around horses
  • Follow proper leading, grooming, and tacking procedures as taught

These expectations help campers build trust with the horses while learning responsibility and awareness.

Around Camp

  • Stay with assigned groups unless given permission
  • Do not climb fences or enter restricted areas
  • Treat horses, staff, and fellow campers with respect
  • Return tack and equipment after use
  • Report any injury, illness, or unsafe behavior immediately
  • Observe quiet hours during overnight camp

The goal is not simply enforcing rules — it is teaching independence, accountability, and respect in a supportive environment.

Participation in camp requires adherence to all safety rules and completion of all registration, application, and waiver forms.
