FAQ'S

                                                  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Please contact us if you have any questions that are not addressed here.

CAN I CALL HOME?

Of course you can call home.  We understand that your families are important to you and would not keep you from contacting them.  However, we are VERY busy during the day and as a result we have found that limiting the phone call to one per day upon a camper's request, sometime after dinner, is the best way of accommodating all of your needs.  You may bring your own cell phone, but to prevent  dying batteries and misplaced phones we ask that you please provide the phone to us upon arrival and we will secure it in the house for you until you are ready to call home after dinner.

WHERE DO I SLEEP?

The campers cabin, known as the Starting Gate, is actually a five-unit hotel. Each cabin has two or three twin beds complete with box springs and mattresses. (For various obvious reasons we ask that you please supply your own bedding to include sheets, blankets and pillows). The Starting Gate does not have electricity in the individual rooms (for safety purposes and the excitement of camping!) but does have white rope lights on the porch that provide light. A flashlight pr lantern is a very important item to pack when coming to camp!

CAN I SLEEP IN A CABIN WITH MY FRIEND(S)?

Our cabins comfortably house two-three young ladies and provide you with twin size beds and dressers.  Each room is set up a little big differently, and we do our best to make arrangements for you prior to your arrival based on requests made during the reservation process.  The cabins where you sleep are all connected and you will never be far away from your friends.  The fact that we only have a maximum of twelve campers per week provides us great flexibility in this respect!

WHERE DO WE GO SWIMMING?

Swimming is a great way to relax on a hot summer afternoon! After riding during the day, we will travel five minutes from camp to the beautiful Wilson’s Bay.  Wilson’s Bay will provide you with a swimming experience you will never forget with the small rock beach and sandy bay bottom.  Some days the waves provide you with an extra special treat!  Pack your swim shoes, your towel, and your bathing suit!

WHAT IS THE DAILY MENU?  WHERE DO WE EAT? WHAT IF I HAVE SPECIAL DIETARY PREFERENCES?

Our daily menu has been developed by previous campers! We have developed a menu that has met the needs of a variety of campers, including vegetarians.  We are fortunate to have our camp located on the premises of the owner/director’s home and we have full use of her kitchen facilities.  Our dining area is attached to Debby’s homne and is a comfortable eating space for all of you to eat at the same time.  The menu includes many kid friendly items.

WHAT ARE THE SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS OF THE COUNSELORS?

Our camping area, as shown in photographs on the website or on Facebook, is encompassed in one area and not spread into different camping spaces like larger camps. Our counselors have their own cabin, which is located directly adjacent to your bunkhouse.  The counselors are available to you ALL NIGHT LONG and they are very responsible to your needs.

WHERE ARE THE RESTROOM FACILITIES?

Your restroom facilities are located in one of the cabins closest to your bunkhouse.  The facilities include running hot and cold water, flushable toilet, and a standing shower for your private use.

 WHAT IS THE GENERAL STORE?

The General Store is a completely optional expense for campers but does provide access to souvenirs including coloring books, stuffed animal s, camp t-shirts,  hoodies, key chains, pencils, candy & vitamin water. The counselors suggest a minimum of  $40 for each camper per week excluding the t-shirt or hoodie purchase. We have found that the most efficient method of payment for the General Store is that of the parents providing the Director with a stated amount of money at the beginning of the week & then a running store tally is maintained. At the end of the week a "bill" is presented & an exchange of monies is completed.

WHAT IS IN THE BARN?

The horse barn is also located approximately 200 ft away from your cabin. It has sixteen stalls, a feed room, a large tack room that is divided by English & Western styles of riding, a tack room for boarders, a lounge and the indoor arena. The outdoor riding arena is located directly behind your cabins.

WHERE IS THE CAMP FIRE AND WHAT TIME IS “LIGHTS OUT”?
The campfire is located in the middle of all of these buildings & is a gathering spot every evening where many stories, games & SMORES are shared! Campers head to bed at 10 PM and the official "Lights Out" call is made.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Riding hard hat, riding boots, comfortable jeans, jodhpurs if you have them for English riding, sleeping bag, blankets, pillow, sheet for a twin bed, hand soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste etc., sun block, mosquito repellent, bath towel,  hand towel, face cloth, sneakers, long sleeve shirt, warm jacket, sweatshirt and poncho or raincoat, shorts, cool shirts, bathing suit, water shoes, beach towel, flashlight and extra batteries, lantern, any items that you would like to bring from home to make you feel comfortable.
